Inroduction
In pursuance of its action plan for performance, assessment, evaluation and accreditation and quality upgradation of institutions of Higher
Education, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, proposes that every institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance
Cell (IQAC) as a post accreditation quality sustenance measure. The main task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious and consistent improvement in the
overall performance of institutions.
The work of the IQAC is the first step towards internationalisation and institutionalisation of quality enhancement initiatives. It will be a facilitative
and participative voluntary system of the institutions. It has the potential to become a vehicle for ushering in quality enhancement by working out as planned manners.
Vision of IQAC
- To build and ensure a quality culture aimed at all round excellence at the college level,
- To make quality education in the college in view of the defining element of higher education in India through a combination of self and external quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance initiatives.
Mission of IQAC
- To stimulate the academic environment for promotion of quality of teaching-learning and research in the college,
- To encourage self-evaluations, autonomy and innovations in the college,
- To collaborate with other stakeholders of of the college for quality evaluation, promotion and sustenance,
- To channelize and systematize the efforts and measures of an institution towards academic excellence,
- To be the driving force for ushering in quality to remove deficiencies and enhance quality.
Functions of IQACC
- Development and application of quality benchmarks or parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the college,
- Facilitating the creation of a learner-centric environment conducive for quality education and faculty maturation to adopt the required knowledge and technology for participatory teaching and learning process,
- Arrangement for feedback responses from students, teachers and other stakeholders on quality-related institutional processes,
- Dissemination of information on the various quality parameters of higher education,
- Organization of inter and intra institutional workshops and seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles,
- Documentation of the various programmes and activities of the college, leading to quality improvement,
- Acting as a nodal agency of the college for coordinating quality-related activities, including adoption and dissemination of good practices,
- Development and maintenance of institutional database through Management Information System (MIS) for the purpose of maintaining and enhancing the institutional quality,
- Development of quality culture in the college,
- Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) as per guidelines and parameters to be submitted to NAAC. In terms of UGC Regulations 2010, IQAC shall act as the documentation and record-keeping cell,
- Encouraging the faculty members for participating in the various professional development programmes to develop their teaching methods.
Aims and Objectives of IQAC
- To develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic action to improve the academic and administrative performance of the institution. It also promotes the measures for institutional functioning
towards quality enhancement through internalization of quality culture and institutionalization of best practices,
- To develop and progress a heightened level of clarity and focus in institutional functioning towards creation, sustenance and enhancement of quality,
- To facilitate the integration of the various activities of the college and institutionalize the best practices,
- To provide a sound basis for decision making imbibing all the dimensions of service quality to improve institutional functioning,
- To act as a change agent in the college,
- To coordinate and improve internal communication to facilitate greater policy implementation and quality assurance towards its stakeholders.
Mechanisms and Procedures of IQAC
- Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic and administrative tasks,
- Relevance and quality of academic and research programmes,
- Equitable access to an affordability of academic programmes for various sections of society,
- Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching-learning process,
- Credibility of evaluation procedures,
- Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support structure and services.
Norms for Composition of IQAC
IQAC may be constituted in every institution of higher education under the chairmanship
of the Head of the institution. As per the guidelines and norms of the NAAC and UGC the criteria and principles of the
composition of the IQAC of a higher educational institution are as follows:-
- Head of the institution as Chairman,
- A few senior administrative officers,
- Three to eight teachers,
- One member from the management,
- One of the active teachers as the Co-ordinator of the IQAC.
Composition
On the basis of the guidelines and norms of the NAAC and the UGC the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Uttar Barpeta College
is unanimously formed for the first time on 03/12/2011 to initiate, plan and supervise various activities that are necessary to increase the
quality of education imparted in our college.
